Anticipation is mounting in the South West after the Hinkley Point C nuclear reactor project last week cleared another regulatory hurdle, with the European Commission approving the UK’s plan for funding for the plant. It was judged in Brussels that a deal between the government and EDF Energy did not amount to illegal state aid.
This means that subject to EDF and its partners making a final investment decision and providing there are no legal challenges – the £16 billion project can get underway, providing a major boost to the region’s economy.
